Now Playing: Grand Theft Auto V on PS3

I stood on line at midnight back in September to get this game.  I spent $59.99 and then I put it on my shelf and now it’s 7 months later, the game sells for $38 at Gamestop and I am just now about to make it my current PS3 game as I’ve finished Bioshock Infinite and need to move forward.

The game world looks immense and I’m already intimidated by it.  I won’t lie, one of the biggest reasons I hate finishing Rockstar games is that I hate doing all the driving.  I suck at it, I cannot control the vehicles and once I get to a mission that is made more difficult by needing to drive away from the law I tend to quit on them.

Now that I’ve gotten into this one, I’d really like to play it through.  People that I talk to about this game seem to love it and tell me how awesome it is, so I’ll do my best to stick with it.  I don’t have much desire to play the online portion, but there seems to be a bunch of trophies associated with it.  Now, I’m NOT a 100% “completionist” by any means, but I do like to scoop up the trophies that I can.

At any rate, I have begun my ascent on Los Santos and made my way through the first few missions with Franklin and met Michael.  The game is really stellar and I’m just scratching the surface.  The city feels completely alive and the characters are full of intrigue, at least to me and hey, I already took a stripper home and did “stuff”.  Now she texts me pics, good job Rockstar.

I picked up the first few trophies:

  • Welcome to Los Santos – You repo’d a car and raced it through the heart of a sun-soaked metropolis.
  • Pimp My Sidearm – Fully mod a weapon.
  • Off the Plane – GTA Online: Complete the Introduction.

As usual, tweet me @irreverentgamer to discuss.

Completed: Bioshock Infinite

I am so glad that I chose to play this game.  Bioshock Infinite was designed really well in that it felt exactly the way a Bioshock game should feel.  The environment felt alive at every turn, the AI was amazingly conceived and never once did it slow down or become repetitive.  I also liked having a main character with a voice and a mission this time around, it just added to the feel of the game.

The ending of the game was a bit confusing, but once I pieced it all together it was provocative, sad and immensely powerful.  I loved it, though I sort of figured the connection between Booker and Comstock was what it was.

I picked up the Burial at Sea add ons, but they sadly haven’t captured my interest as Booker and Elizabeth exist in a certain place and time for me.  Having an alternate version of them has left me wanting more.

I banged out the last bunch of trophies that I could grab and now it’s time to move on.

  • Master of Pyrotechnics – In the Main Campaign, killed 20 enemies with the Barnstormer RPG.
  • Skeet Shoot – In the Main Campaign, killed 5 enemies while they are falling
  • Aerial Assassin – In the Main Campaign, killed 20 enemies with a Sky-Line Strike.
  • Passionately Reciprocated – In the Main Campaign, killed 150 enemies with the Founder Triple R Machine Gun or Vox Repeater.
  • On the Fly – In the Main Campaign, killed 30 enemies while riding a Sky-Line.
  • Bolt From the Blue – In the Main Campaign, killed 5 enemies with a headshot while riding a Sky-Line.
  • The Bird or The Cage – Completed The Hand of the Prophet.
  • Tin Soldier – Completed the Main Campaign on Easy difficulty or above.
  • Saw the Elephant – Completed the Main Campaign on Normal difficulty or above.

Stay tuned!

Update: Bioshock Infinite – 1 Trophy earned

cover_close-upDESIGN03

I am absolutely loving Bioshock Infinite.  I have been enjoying the company of Elizabeth, she’s an amazing AI companion, feeding me Ammo, Salts and Health when fighting and coins when scavenging.  The dialogue interaction between her and Booker is intelligent and keeps the story moving forward, even though she gets upset with me quite a bit.  I guess being locked in that tower for so long has rendered her emotional towards all the violence and murder, but hey these dudes attack me.

Anyhow, I’ve been playing through Finkton, currently on my way to The Good Time Club to find the gunsmith who’s gone missing.  The imagery and atmosphere bring so much to this game, that I spend a ton of time simply looking around and admiring it.  In the gunsmith’s house, the Buddhism shrine was beautiful, poignant and made perfect sense.  Of course, when I got outside, The Handyman was waiting for me.  We’ll try that guy soon enough.  For now, one trophy earned:

Vigorous Opposition – In the Main Campaign, killed 75 enemies either with a Vigor or while the enemy is under the effects of a Vigor.
